The Lyons Rural Fire Protection District was formed in 1954 and is a combination department of paid and volunteer staff. The city lies 25 miles east of Oregon's state capital, Salem. The Lyons RFPD primary fire response area is 37 sq. miles, which includes a small city area, agricultural farming lands, heavy timbered canyon areas, and timbered wilderness. The fire response area holds a population of approximately 1,204 residents (2016 US Census Population Estimate). The Lyons Ambulance service area is approximately 1000 sq. miles.
Lyons RFPD provides a 24/7 response to fire/rescue emergencies and EMS incidents. Lyons RFPD responds with an ALS ambulance staff and volunteer firefighters. Lyons RFPD has mutual and automatic aid agreements with several surrounding fire districts.
